Human-Environment Interaction is one of the 5 themes of geography.  Historically, there have been significant parts of Earth that are too hot, too cold, too rugged, too isolated,too wet or too dry to support much human life. Clearlyadvancements in building, technology, transportation and more haveallowed humans in recent history to settle in areas that werepreviously uninhabitable or at least, only home to smallpopulations.  Can you provide any examples ofthis?  Local, regional or global?  Be specificwith your examples—cite the location, modifications that have beenmade to allow for a sustainable human population, and impacts onthe surrounding natural environment.  If you prefer, you canchoose your own example of Human-Environment interaction todiscuss.  As always, cite your resources.
