Social media increased loneliness :

Recently, loneliness has beenincreasedin modern society, A recent national report found that nearly half of Americans report sometimes or always feeling lonely(age 18 -22), Some researchers postulate that this increase in loneliness among younger adults is potentially related to their screen time and social media use. That indicates social anxiety plays an important role in the persistence of loneliness. It also appears that more socially anxious and lonely individuals may attempt to compensate for or augment their limited in-person social relationships online (Bessiere et al., 2008; Kll et al., 2020; Masi et al., 2011; Shepherd & Edelmann, 2005; Weidman et al., 2012).

Social media and sleep effects

Sleep deprivation is linked to those who spend hours using social media, Changes have been associated with the use of screens, cell phones, the Internet, and social media websites. The use of screens has been shown to delay sleep onset and melatonin secretion and stimulation of wake systems by interaction with social media may exacerbate these effects. Access to social media and especially a cell phone in teenagers' bedrooms is associated with a reduction in sleep time during the school week with negative effects on daily functioning and mood.
