I. On September 1, 2020, Linda borrowed $15,000 from Ian to help her pay for college. She agreed to repay Ian on June 1, 2021, upon her graduation from college. When Linda graduated, she was unable to pay the full $15,000.

(a)On June 1, 2021, Linda called Ian on the telephone and said that she did not have the full $15,000 and asked Ian if he would accept $13,000 as full payment instead.Ian said "OK".On June 3, Linda paid Ian $13,000. On June 5, 2021, Ian sued Linda for the remaining $2,000. Judgement for whom? Explain fully.

(b)Instead of the facts in (a) above, assume that Linda called Ian on the telephone on June 1, 2021 and said that she did not have the full $15,000. Linda told Ian that she was willing to pay $13,000 and in addition, try to help Ian get a job in her father's business, which Ian wanted very much. Ian agreed that this would discharge the entire $15,000 debt. The next day, Linda sent Ian $13,000.She also called her father and asked him to interview Ian for a job at his firm. Her father interviewed Ian but rejected him for the job. Ian then sued Linda for $2,000.Judgment for whom? Explain fully.
