I want a 6 sentence response (or more sentences).
DOCUMENT B: Japanese Aggression" by Alan Brinkley (2012) The attack on Pearl Harbor was a brutal sneak attack on unsuspecting American naval forces and civilians. After the Japanese had invaded China raping and killing thousands of Chinese women and children in the process Franklin Roosevelt took certain measures to economically "quarantine" [isolate] Japan. These included cutting off oil supplies and freezing Japanese assets a mild measure considering the violence and destruction that the Japanese enacted on the Chinese. The Japanese emperor, thinking his forces invincible, invaded Indochina and the Philippines, looking to steal resources from those nations to fuel its military machine. Japan attacked the United States in 1941 because that the Americans wouldn't stand for colonialism, aggression, and naked imperialism in the Pacific. Japan allied itself with Hitler and Nazi Germany because their governments shared a similar ideology. Both believed in ethnic cleansing - the practice of wiping out religious and cultural minorities in order to clear the way for the rise of a master race (whether that master race be Aryan Germans or ethnic Japanese people). In addition, both the Japanese and the Nazi governments were dictatorships absolute and total rule by one person, without the protection of individual freedoms or checks and balances. Hence, the attack on Pearl Harbor was in a way an attack on freedom and democracy by a tyrannical power hungry for an even greater share of the world's resources. 2.
