In field observations, there are many roles of the observer (i.e. level of participation).

Was it qualitative or quantitative? (Example, a friend of mine was doing his dissertation for his Ph.D. on homeless people and how they were treated. He lived on the streets as a homeless person for a month to get a first-person perception)
