Hi everyone, my name is NaTasha. I am from a small town in North Carolina, the mother of six and GiGi to one awesome seven-year-old. I have been a housewife for most of my life and with the nest slowly emptying, Im fulfilling a few lifelong goals. I am a recent grad of SNHU with an A.S. in Accounting and I am currently working towards my B.S. in Accounting with a concentration in Forensic Accounting. I wanted to work for the federal government after completing my degree; however, that sentiment has changed, and my plan now includes becoming a CPA and working for my daughter as she builds her clothing company.
A growing number of American families, my family included are facing a huge problem with affordable housing. Home prices and interest rates have almost doubled since 2019, which makes it nearly impossible to purchase a home in todays market. In 2019 the average price of a home was $260,000 with a 4% interest rate and the average mortgage payment was roughly $1700. Today, the average price of a home is $436,000 with a 7.5% interest rate and a mortgage payment of roughly $3700. This means that fewer families can afford a home mortgage which is a huge obstacle. Not only are homes overpriced and interest rates high, but the average American household does not make enough money to qualify for an affordable mortgage if the have any other debt such as car loans or credit card debt.
The solution to this problem may seem simple in theory; however, it is not. I would tackle the problem by lowering interest rates and raising wages. The justification for my solution would be the reasoning that everyone deserves decent affordable housing. I believe that adequate shelter is a basic necessity of humankind.
