LAW 4110: Assignment #3 - Impact of Minimum Wage to an Organization (15%)

This assignment relates to the following Course Learning Requirements:

CLR 2: Compare and contrast Canadian legislative requirements to workplace practices and policies. CLR 3: Organize and implement policies and procedures that address the human resources legal issues within an organization in order to reduce liability and risk CLR 4: Outline how current and unique legal proceedings impact applications of the law in the workplace

Objective of this Assignment:

To demonstrate an understanding of the changes to legislation and how it impacts laws in the workplace and how to implement policies and procedures that reflect the changes and ensure reduced liability and risk.

Instructions

Step 1: The Ontario government has been making many changes to the Employment Standards Act. Most notably, there has been the increase to minimum wage.

For this assignment, you are required to analyze the impact of minimum wage. You will consider this impact on:

• Small/large business and their ability to stay competitive
• Minimum and non-minimum wage employees, customers and;
• The economy as a whole
  • Include a cover page with the course code and course name, the assignment number, the title of your assignment, your student ID, your name, the instructor's name, and the date the assignment is created.

You will then select one other province in Canada and compare Ontario to it's minimum wage. What is your opinion on how this other province compares? Is minimum wage higher or lower? How has the minimum wage impacted this province?

Step 2:

Your report should be a maximum of 1200 words double spaced (before appendices, table of contents, bibliography etc.). This assignment is to be submitted in MS WORD format. It should be submitted with the following guidelines:

• Ensure the first page of your assignment has the title at the top of the page and the sections of your report have headings and subheadings to chunk your paper into sections for each of the topics you are writing about.
• Font should be either Calibri or Arial, 11pt. Text must be double spaced but table may be single spaced.
• You must cite all your sources of information using APA formatting.
• Create a separate reference page that lists all of your sources that you have cited in text. Sources include software used. Also, personal communications from a professional in the field count as a reference source.
