The stone falls from rest from her hand in a straight, vertical line under the influence of gravity alone until it hits the ground. Maya held her hand 1.35m above the well and she hears the stone hit the bottom 1.5s after she let go of it. Take the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity to be g = 9.8 ms 2 and neglect the time it takes for the sound of the stone hitting the ground to reach Maya. Give numerical answers to two significant figures. (a) Calculate the depth of the well, and the final speed that the stone reaches before hitting the bottom of it. [3] (b) Draw a graph of the velocity v (in metres per second) of the stone against the time (in seconds), from the time at which the stone is dropped until the instant before it hits the bottom of the well.
