NUMBER ONE

Simon Sinek, author of the book "Start with Why" describes his concept, "The Golden Circle," as a way leaders and organizations can become inspirational. "The Golden Circle"comprises the "why", the "how", and the "what". Sinek states that the focus should first be on the "why", which is about the organization's central purpose and motivation for doing

what it does. According to Sinek, inspirational leaders create company cultures in which everyone understands and works toward the same goal, the "why". In addition, everyone can describe "how" the organization fulfills the "why" and "what" the organization does or produces.

Using the above, kindly help explain the following :

  • Your experience working for a leader who supports a culture focusing on "why"? What would be different from working in a culture that was not inspirational?
  • Your experience working for a leader who did not support a culture focusing on the "why", ? What would be different to work in a culture that focuses on the "why"?
  • Based on your responses above, please help to explain how "The Golden Circle" can help me become an inspirational leader.
  • If you were to create an "ideal" team or organization, please help explain if you would take the same approach(es) discussed above or other approaches. Explain with details.
  • Please help with skills you need to develop or refine to become an inspirational leader. What could you do to develop or refine these skills?

NUMBER TWO

The Job Characteristics Model (Figure 15.1) proposes that the five core job characteristics(skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback from the job) create the critical psychological states of experienced meaningfulness of work and experienced responsibility for work and knowledge of results. These motivate the employee to work

hard and enjoy the job

Using the above, kindly help to explain the following:

  • Duties and responsibilities of your current job (or a previous one), and the knowledge, skills and abilities required to succeed in this job?
  • For instance, if the management is redesigning your job and has asked you to contribute ideas on to increase personal and work outcomes.

Using the Job Characteristics Model, make recommendations based on the five core job dimensions. Describe how each of these recommendations may allow you to derive more meaning from your job, feel more responsible for the outcomes you produce and/or have more knowledge of the results of your work. You are encouraged to be creative and think outside the current limits of the job.

NUMBER THREE

Describe a problem or an issue in your life that you would like to change. The change can be in your personal or work life. For example, it could be a personal change such as planning to exercise more or quitting smoking. Alternatively, it could be a professional change such

as receiving a promotion or changing jobs. Could you create a force field analysis for your change? A force field analysis helps you identify the compelling reasons for change and those "forces"which will oppose your change.

Using the above, kindly help with the following:

  • Describe four forces for change and four for the status quo. Then, outline the change(s) you want to see. Describe the end goal and the consequence of the change with one to two sentences. Be as specific as possible.

Working with Lewin's Change Model, details each step as described below:

  • Unfreeze: What do you need to be convinced to give up your old behaviours in favour of a new set of behaviours?
  • Change: How will you make the change(s)? What will you need to continue with the change(s)? How will you keep yourself motivated?
  • Refreeze: How will you reinforce the change? What will you implement to develop
