Medical care for the elderly in my opinion seems quite complicated, in the textbook it is broken down into different parts but when actually having to choose what coverage is needed is complicated. There are four major categories when it comes to Medicare coverage for the elderly, two mandatory coverages are hospital services and prescription drug coverage insurance (Henderson, 2018). The money for Medicare coverage comes from payroll and income taxes which means that the working class is paying for this health care coverage for the elderly who for the most part are retired (Henderson, 2018). The plus side of a system like Medicare is once you retire you most likely paid into this service when they were working so it would be a pay now and receive benefits later style. A downside of Medicare coverage is that they have a set price they will pay for every exam and procedure done, so only certain places accept Medicare insurance. From personal experience normally the places that accept Medicare are not top of the line medical care, they are places that are okay with accepting the minimum amount of coverage for each procedure. This normally means that the profits for this establishment are lower and it reflects in the care provided.
