Q. 4 (i) Two pulley running on parallel shafts 2 m apart are connected by a crossed belt. Calculate the length of the belt and angle of contact between the belt and each pulley if the pulley diameters are 50 cm and 20 cm, respectively. Find the power transmission by the belt when the larger pulley rotates at 200 rpm, the coefficient of friction between belt and pulley is 0.25 and the maximum permissible tension in the belt is 1 kN. (6 marks) (ii) What do you mean by power transmission? Why it requires? Why type of systems have a maximum capacity of power transmission capacity and why? (3 marks)
