Problem 2 (15 points)
Health Plus Ltd picked up the protective mask contract that Medic Inc had previously completed. The masks are all made the same way, but they can be sold in boxes containing either 30 or 100 masks each. No matter the quantity of masks in a box, the masks (M) are all created the same. They are composed of 2 elastic bands (E) and 1 piece of fabric (F). However, different boxes are required for the quantity of masks. You need a small box (PB) to hold 30 masks, and a large box (GB) to hold 100 masks. The masks are placed in the boxes to have a finished product, so there are actually two finished products (PBF for 30 masks and GBF for 100 masks). You learn that the rubber bands must be ordered in batches of 800 units, but the factory and the boxes can be ordered in batches as you need. The company buys the remaining stock from Medic Inc for resale, so they expect to receive 150 PBF in the second week and 35 GBF in the fifth week. They also have boxes from their previous contract that they can convert and reuse for masks. They already have stocks of 20 PB and 10 GB.
The delivery times are given below, we are currently at the start of week 1.
Produit | Receptions planned in the same date | Delivery time |
Finished products (PBF, GBF) | Unlimited | 2 weeks |
Boxes (PB, GB) | Unlimited | 1 week |
Masks (M) | Unlimited | 1 week |
Elastics (E) | Unlimited | 1 week |
Factory piece (F) | 1-5 000 units | 1 week |
5 001-10 000 units | 2 weeks | |
10,001+ units | 3 weeks |
The first four orders are received, Sant Plus Ltd needs 230 PBF in week 5, 180 PBF in week 7, 100 GBF in week 4 and 250 GBF in week 8. You can use the tables below to create your PBM, but their use is not mandatory. (Lead: Start by creating a graphical representation of the product hierarchy to help you complete the PBM)
