The reconstruction was successful in many aspects but there are also amendments that were made in that period that ended up as a total failure .The net effect of the positives and the negatives of the reconstruction determine the fact that the reconstruction was a success.
Explanation:
The main aim of the reconstruction period was to revive and unite a nation that had been torn apart and separated by war. The period was successful since it left a united America with all the states that had succeeded pledging loyalty t the united states of America .The former confederate states that had already created their own constitutions acknowledged the 13, 14 and 15th amendments of the US constitution hence making a great addition to the positives of the reconstruction period. The reconstruction however failed to protect the rights o the former laves and they were now more insecure. The fact that there were no amendment s that were made to give them more economic power meant that this slaves still had to fight for their rights on their own. This however did not have effects running up to date as compared to the fact that the unity of the nation is still intact to date hence despite the fact that it is a demerit, it cannot outweigh the positive impact of the reconstruction .
