- ii. A convicted bank robber currently in jail wishes to deduct $10,000 he had paid someone to assist him in a bank robbery that had taken place a few months ago, just before they were caught by the police.
- iii. The taxpayer runs a retail store and accounts for income on a cash basis (amounts go into assessable income only when the money is actually paid to the taxpayer). He makes a $5,000 sale on credit, which has not been recognised yet as income this $5,000 debt has subsequently gone bad and has been written off.
- iv. An employee tax accountant undertakes a Masters in Tax Law, where the fees are payable in the form of HECS-HELP. The employee pays for half of these fees himself, and the other half are paid for by his employer as a fringe benefit.
