1. The 2 strengths that I think are essential in becoming a successful critical thinker in the medical field would be having an open mind and being an effective communicator. These strengths are essential to have because when you are dealing with a situation in the medical field, each strength contributes to the overall mission, which is providing great care to patients. For example, open-mindness will help you analyze problems by looking at them from all perspectives rather than being biased. Being able to effectively communicate with your patient, the patient's family, and your colleagues is gravely important to prevent confusion, and instead provide clarity and expectations of what is required of each role.
To be more successful in critical thinking, I would like to improve my communication skills. I think I listen to respond more than actually understand. Another area I can improve is to learn how to analyze everything before making a decision. I find myself oftenmaking the wrong decision because I am an emotional thinker rather than logical. Re-evaluating everything is very important in deciding.
Identifying my weaknesses will help me work on the areas that I need to improve in order to become successful in critical thinking. Understanding my strengths will especially help because I can use it as a tool to excel at critical thinking.
Becoming a critical thinker will help me navigate my journey in the nursing program because it is one of the best tools to have. There are many immediate decisions that we nurses will have to make, therefore practicing skills such as effective communication, and open-mindness can help with decision making.
2. Two strengths I believe i possess that contributes to critical thinking are active listening, problem solving, and inferring. Without strength in active listening its hard to gather imperative details which lead to an accurate inference. Also, problem solving is a strength of mine based on being able to come up with unbiased solutions that would only benefit the patients care plan positively.
Alternatively, I think that two areas that I could use improvement in the the critical thinking process is curiosity and research. Becuase critical thinking often requires making inferences, I think that doing research can sometimes be forgotten and an easy step to leave out. Research can be the catalyst for making up to date and informed decisions.
I think that taking a step back and identifying what my strengths and weaknesses are in the critical thinking process can only benefit me in making the best informed decisions for my future patients. Breaking down the processs and pointing my weakness out myself will help me work on my weaknesses so that I can analyze facts and make informed jugments and diagnoses.
Conclusively, becoming a good critical thinker will help in the nursing process when using ADPIE. The entire ADPIE process requires critical thinking and strength in analyzing data to make inferences. I think that critical thinking goes a long way in not just nursing but in every day life. Critical thinking will also help me through out this course and doing assignments by thinking objectively which is important in understanding the material and obsorbing the course content.
HERE IS THE SAMPLE REPLIES FOR #1
* Hi, I agree with you on communication. I also tend to listen to respond as opposed to listening to understand and infer from there. I think a lot of people do this but it says more about us as future nurses to recognize this and work on this so that we can make the best informed decisions possible by looking at the whole picture instead of a small part.
* My communications skills are also poor because I have social anxiety disorder. That is why I make sure I know what I have to say every time I talk to someone, I even rehearse myself just to talk to a friend. Public speaking was the hardest part of my college life. I chose this profession because I believe I can overcome my fear of communicating because I like to help people specially it matters of life.
HERE IS THE SAMPLE REPLIES FOR #2
* Thank you for sharing your critical thinking strengths and places where you could do better. It's great that you're good at active listening, solving problems, and making assumptions, because these are all important skills for critical thought.
Active listening is the only way to get correct information and understand how patients, coworkers, and other stakeholders see things and what they need. Your ability to solve problems without bias is also important because it lets you come up with creative and effective solutions that are best for the patient.
It's good that you know studying is an area where you could do better. As you said, it's important to do research to make smart choices and stay up to date on best practices and new trends in healthcare. Curiosity is also important for critical thinking because it makes people want to learn more, ask questions, and look for new knowledge.
