SCENARIO 1: We gather college students to see if their use of caffeine helps them stay more alert during classes. We randomly assign half the students to drink a caffeinated drink in the morning, and the control group drinks only water in the morning. During their 90 minute morning class, we measure how many minutes they stayed alert generating an alertness score that ranges from 0 to 90. The higher the score, the more "alert" they were during class. SCENARIO 3: In order to find out if the amount of sleep we get is significantly related to our daily mood, we gather a sample of individuals and ask how much sleep do you average every week and have them take a "mood survey" that generates a score from 0 to 150, with higher scores meaning a "better mood" THIS page has the DATA to use for the Scenarios listed on the previous page 3 63 111 CHOOSE ONE T-TEST YOU WOULD LIKE TO COMPLETE CORRELATION SCENARIO 1 SCENARIO SCENARIO "Independent" 2 "Dependent 3 Student Caffeine Group Alertness Student Mood "todo""todo" | Sleep hours Level YESINO 49 128 A Yes I 100 120 42 126 B Yes 1 72 B 130 142 63 143 Yes 63 101 120 21 102 D Yes 1 62 D 106 115 42 123 E Yes 1 67 E 123 135 25 109 F Yes 1 55 F 119 63 124 G Yes 1 62 G 109 120 30 108 H Yes 1 64 H 112 125 22 100 I Yes 1 45 I 88 99 15 95 J Yes 1 58 112 120 20 118 K No 0 54 105 118 40 121 L No 0 61 110 116 61 129 M No 0 53 M 99 105 35 116 N No 0 55 106 116 58 122 0 No 0 46 83 95 26 95 No 0 48 55 123 Q No 0 60 38 105 R No 0 51 23 108 S No 0 62 28 101 T No 0 50 41 110 - 2-ZZO THIS page has the SELF-CHECKS to use for the DATA listed on the previous page SELF CHECK ITEMS: T-TEST INDEPENDENT VASSARSTATS Self-Check for Independent t-Test using the p value for one-tail INT) on 0123715 (Remember this is NOT the one you are going to report this is just one to use as a self-check.)
