System Operation Description
The Beauty Center “Skincare” provides 5 main treatments: manicure, pedicure, facial, hair removal and eye brow shaping. Each one of these services is exclusively conducted by a specialist beautician.
An additional employer is acting as the cashier and at the same time acts as the receptionist, informs customers about serving durations upon arrival.
The Skincare Beauty Center operates Monday through Friday 10:00 to 20:00, that is, 5 times a week for ten hours every working day.
At the same time, the following conditions hold:
- Every customer may wish to ask and do all 5 beauty services. However, there are predefined priority queues for each aforementioned service.
- The percentages for treatments have been found to be:
- 27% of those entering the Beauty Center select to have a manicure, 12% select to have a pedicure, 32% go for hair removal, 7% select to have a facial and 22% prefer to do eye brow shaping.
- From those who had initially selected to have hair removal, 35% go for a manicure, 10% select to have a pedicure, 5% to have a facial, 21% to have eye brow shaping and 29% leaves the Beauty Center without any additional treatment.
- From those who had initially selected to do facials, 30% select to do eye brow shaping and 70% select to leave.
- From those who had initially selected to do pedicure, 44% select to do eye brow shaping and 56% select to depart.
- All customers need to go through the cashier to pay.
Based on data collection and observations, the following have been derived:
- Customers’ arrival during peak time: expo (9); customers’ arrival during all remaining opening hours expo (20).
- Manicure: normal (45, 20).
- Pedicure: normal (50, 30).
- Hair Removal: normal (40, 18).
- Eye Brow shaping: normal (8, 2).
- Facial: normal (99, 55).
- Payment: normal (2, 0.5).
- Getting informed: uniform (1, 3).
The Management has also observed that although customers could have made it, they select not to wait if the waiting time exceeds their maximum allowable time for them (note, the cashier notifies them that they need to wait over 75 min).
The aim of the Management is to reduce the number of dissatisfied customers and then to find a way to improve the waiting time of customers. You may suggest any change you consider feasible and important.
DELIVERABLE
You are required to develop the model of the existing system (as-is) using Simul8 (elements of the program used, execution parameters, screenshots and explanation of the model used).
Also, you are required to provide the results of the as-is analysis (i.e. simulation time, initial conditions, steady state, number of repeats, sensitivity analysis, as-is results, conclusions and causes of problems). Your deliverable will consist of:
- A report (in either .docx or .pdf) that will describe the process and
- Simul8 files (as-is scenario) that demonstrates your model
