TASK DESCRIPTION You part of a Project Management Team based in Muscat comprising 4 or 5 project analysts responsible for cost estimations and budget planning for various projects in the Sultanate of Oman. Your work requires that you understand issues relating to how to ensure that a project budget realistically reflects the costs for executing the project successfully. Moreover, you should be able to apply tools and techniques to make accurate cost decisions, and to understand why a realistic project budget is important to project success. Various organisations, in both the public and private sectors, seek to encourage projects focusing on the project areas as a consequence of pandemic such as Medical Clinics ; Vocational Training; ManufacturingMasks & Sanitizers and Online Essentials. This goal requires effective and professional tools are deployed to ensure that project budgets are realistically determined in addition to improving their completion efficiency. A realistic cost estimation and budget plan will help stakeholders to achieve strategic investment and economic goals.

ASSIGNED PROJECT AREA : Online Essentials

Required You are to prepare a project report comprising cost estimation and budget plan to be submitted to a client. Your groups report should include the following:

i) Project overview including scope baseline and project schedule.

ii) Project cost estimation including contingency reserve.

iii) Budget plan including time phase and tracking chart (assume a duration of not less than 6 months

iv) Brief comments on relevant organizational process assets and project budget issues

v) Conclusion and recommendations

You may discover from your research into your assigned project area, that there may be capital projects already completed or projects that may currently be at tendering stage or process; thus, you may assume that you are involved in planning a bigger project, perhaps, a new project, that is about twice the scope of a similar existing project. You should therefore feel free to nominate a suitable project of your choice in your assigned sector, guided by publicly available information (costs, scope, etc.) regarding existing projects, and to make realistic and relevant assumptions. Your major task is basically to make cost estimations and budget plan for your chosen new project, applying the principles of cost budgeting inputs, and budget determination tools and techniques taught in the PCBM class. Your report may receive questions or enquiries for clarification from the client and other members of your course. You will be expected to respond to these comments. The practical benefit of this assignment is that if your group is successful, you may be able to represent the client and guide the organisation through the process of project implementation.
