The Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020 has caused great physical, emotional, and economic devastation on a global level. A key Government and Central Bank program has been to stimulate economic activity by creating money through the issuance of debt. The process -known as Quantitative Easing involves a country's central bank purchasing both Govt. and Corporate debt (bonds) with fiat money they essentially create out of thin air. A specific element of this is part of what is called Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). In this specific case a government actually provides cash to its citizens through the process of issuing Government debt, which the Central Bank purchases, and then provides this money to the Govt. for distribution (e.g. CERB and CRB programs in Canada).
