Dear Teacher,
My daughter, Jane, came home today very upset again! This is the third time in two weeks shehas gotten off the bus in tears. This is unacceptable! Please address my concerns below.
1. In the past two weeks, Jane reports that you were out three days and in meetings for partsof two others. This is very disruptive to my daughter's education. As her teacher, I expect youto be in school on a regular basis and I would appreciate advanced notification of days you willnot be in or when you will be pulled for meetings. This way I can prepare her that she will havea substitute which will help her not have so many meltdowns. This advanced notice is vital toher success and should also be written into her IEP.
2. Jane's general education teacher has her sitting at the back table with Miss Tina (her PCA)instead of sitting at a table with her classmates. When the kids do group work, Miss Tina is
always her partner. HOW IS THIS HELPFUL???? She is supposed to be included with her peersto develop social skills and improve her ability to communicate. As such, she should be
partnered with her classmates and also be sitting with them. Miss Tina is her support person, not her peer. I know my daughter has autism combined with a reading disability, but she is notstupid.
3. Again related to the general education teacher, she is not following Jane's BIP. When Janerequests a break, the teacher makes her wait. Miss Tina has documentation of these incidents.
This has resulted in several major meltdowns. How is my child supposed to learn to advocatefor herself when this teacher continues to thwart our efforts by NOT implementing andfollowing the BIP????As you know, my husband and I are both very busy people. We do our job and we expect youto do yours. Please address these concerns, in writing via a response to this e-mail ASAP! Iwould hate to see these issues be the reason we would have to initiate Due Process. We havedone it before and are not afraid to do it again.
Respectfully,
Dr. Doe
