The first person I interviewed is Kailey Garran who is a 32-year-old Caucasian woman that comes from a close-knit family. Her family lived close together as a child and she still lives next door to her dad and brother. She was raised as a Baptist and her family valued education and religion. She mentioned that her dad struggled in school due to him being dyslexic, and her parents had high expectations for her and her brother. Her parents were strict and she feels that made her a better person. When she was younger, she did not know it was possible to drop out of high school because that was not an option for her. Her parents emphasized graduating high school but not college or trade school. Her earliest learning memory was when she was in 5th grade and things finally clicked for her. She says that she had struggled academically before that time and when she finally understood what was being taught, it excited her. As an adult, she sees the importance of education and feels that it should not be taken for granted. She concludes her interview by stating now she understands why her parents raised her the way she did because it has molded her into the person she is today.
