The health information manager has been charged with preparing a request for proposal (RFP) for a new facility-wide electronic health record (EHR) system. Prior to writing the RFP, the manager must determine the functional requirements for the new EHR system as part of a systems analysis, which involves "collecting, organizing, and evaluating data about the health care facility along with information it needs from the system. Systems analysis is performed early in an EHR system project because it helps a project team determine the data, storage, reporting, and functionality needs of the healthcare organization. In systems analysis, the health care organization determines what users need from the proposed EHR system and it involves the review of current processes used by the health care facility, proposed new processes, and desired functional requirements.
