Background

Millennium Transport Ltd. operates several warehouses and fulfillment centers across the United States. Cleanliness is maintained throughout the facilities, including restrooms, break rooms, carpets, and hard surfaces. The staff must also operate cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers, and perform other maintenance tasks. The work of janitorial staff is physically demanding and requires prolonged standing.

Scope of Work

Types of Heavy Machinery Accidents

There are several types of heavy machinery accidents, including:

• Stuck-between - Driving loaded forkliftshit Jane Doe, and pinned between the pallet and the wall.
• Slipping on wet floors - dumping the mop pail at the end of the shift
• Collisions -The most common reason for a collision with a person is when a vehicle is changing lanes or backing up.
• Electrocutions - vacuuming then move the electrical cord out of the way
• Falling Objects - building a pallet and products toppled on top of Joe Silver
• Falls - Falling of ladder while cleaning the top rack in sector B5
• Getting exposed to harmful chemicals - cleaning men's room , Kacey Green got some cleaners in hand and burn

Injuries involving heavy machinery are severe accidents that can occur with this type of equipment, including:

Methodology

The TNA was conducted using the following tools:

Job analysis

This tool is used to identify tasks and responsibilities associated with each job role in the organization. In order to perform each job task safely and effectively, knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) must be identified.

Observations

Observations will be conducted to identify any unsafe work practices, potential hazards, and risks related to each job role. Any potential performance gaps will also be identified through observations.

Interviews

We conducted interviews with employees, supervisors, and managers to determine what training is needed at the company and how to improve the current training program.

Incident reports

Reviewing incident reports will help identify any recurring safety incidents and provide insight into the causes of these incidents. This information can be used to develop training programs that target these specific safety issues.

Findings

The TNA findings revealed that the janitorial staff members are facing several issues, including:

• Forklift accidents causing injuries to employees and damage to equipment.
• Electrical Hazards in the Workplace.
• Training needs
• Chemical Hazards in the workplace.
• Inadequate training.

Millennium Transport Ltd. required training in the following areas to implement a robust training program:

Training in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

This training program will provide personnel with the information and abilities necessary to successfully react in the event of an emergency.

Janitorial training

This training will cover safe work practices for cleaning and maintaining restrooms, break rooms, and floors. Additionally, floor scrubbers and compactors will be covered in terms of their proper operation and maintenance.

Forklift safety training

This training will cover the safe operation of forklifts and will include topics such as pre-use inspections, load handling, and safe driving practices. It will also cover the proper use of seat belts and other safety features on forklifts.

Training to Prevent Slips, Trips, and Falls

This training will focus on identifying fall hazards and proper use of fall protection equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, and safety harnesses. It will also cover safe work practices for working at heights.

Electrical safety training

Safe work practices will be covered in this training, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment use, and identifying electrical hazards.

Training on How to Safely Use Janitorial Equipment

Throughout the course of this training program, personnel will get instruction on how to properly operate janitorial equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and compactors.

Hazardous Material Handling Training Program

This program will cover the proper handling of hazardous materials, including cleaning equipment and chemicals, to prevent slips and falls. The training will also cover proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Training on Emergency procedures

Participants in this training session learned about emergency procedures for situations such as fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies.

The recommended training programs will help close performance gaps by providing employees with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their job tasks safely and effectively. This will help reduce incident reports and injuries, resulting in a safer work environment.

Equipment-specific training

This training will focus on the safe operation and maintenance of equipment used in heavy-duty agricultural/forestry sectors and for general lawn care. It will cover topics such as pre-operation inspection, safe operation, and maintenance.

The identified issues can severely affect staff's health, productivity, and the company's bottom line. The TNA finding highlights the importance of providing comprehensive training to janitorial staff to improve their performance and prevent injuries and equipment damage. The training programs proposed will enable the team to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their tasks safely and efficiently. By addressing the factors contributing to injuries, the training programs outlined above will help close performance gaps that have been found. Forklift Safety Training and Back Safety Training can help address accidents sustained to the back while operating forklifts. The Slips, Trips and Falls Prevention Course will reduce slip and fall incidents while employees are on the job. Both the Hazard Communication Training and the Janitorial Equipment Training will help reduce the number of accidents caused by improper use of equipment. The former will help prevent incidents involving chemicals, while the latter will help avoid accidents involving improper use of equipment. Last but not least, the training on emergency procedures will assist workers in responding correctly in an emergency.
