Governance plays an essential role in an organization's innovation process and development. The governance teams' job is to steer the organizations innovative goals in line with the capital and other resources granted towards advancements and innovative practice. Effective governance is vital in promoting innovative thinking in an organization's everyday endeavors such as their services and/or products, ventures, partnerships, and within the vision establish by the governing body. Tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Cisco heavily aim to promote this "out of the box" structure of thinking through their unorthodox style of conducting business.

Project managers are a vital part in governance innovation as they institute a major part of the culture into the team members that develop and make up the organizations culture. It is the managers that serve as a direct line to building and creating what the teams set the organization up to be.
