While I can't agree that restructuring the entire police system is a must (I wish you would have explained what that means). The is always room for improvement.

As far as the "defund the police" movement, it has been very interesting. Some might ask, what does that mean? I'd say that depends upon who you ask, but I recently read an interesting piece that talks about this very issue. In that piece, writer Rashwan Ray says "...Defund does not meanabolishpolicing..." "...Rather, they want to see the rotten trees of policing chopped down and fresh roots replanted anew. Ray then goes on to list the arguments he has on why the police, as we know them today, should be defunded and "...reallocating or redirecting funding away from the police department to other government agencies funded by the local municipality...."

Ray goes on to offer Camden, New Jersey, as an example of what this movement can do. He says, "...Nearly a decade ago, Camden disbanded (abolished) its police force and dissolved the local police union..." He says Camden is a good example of what good can be done by defunding the police.

What does 'defund the police' mean and does it have merit?"Defund" does not mean "abolish."Rashawn RayBrookings

On the flip side, I read another piece where a Camden, NJ resident (Keith Benson) says things are not as they seem in that city. He says those that say Camden is a good example of why the defund the police movement can improve the city are saying this because they want the police defunded and often are speaking for political advantage (saying what people have been told (by the media) what is good and what they should support). Anyway, Benson says the crime rate has gone down only because so many (about 7,000) people have left the city; thus, less crime is reported. He also says due to the new LEO structure, many local residents don't bother to report when they are victimized by a criminal.

Anyway, Benson seems to think there is a conspiracy within the city to support the movement and thus, those in charge of the city are not telling the whole story.

I live and work in Camden, the New Jersey city that disbanded and rebuilt its police force. We've been upheld as a model for cities like Minneapolis, but there's a lot more to the story.Camden has ranked as the 10th-most-dangerous city in America and is still the most dangerous city in New Jersey.Business Insider

What say you class? Can the "defund the police" movement make things better or worse? What direction to see the majority of America going toward? Why or why not?
