A Steam turbine operates under steady flow conditions with 20 kg/s of steam entering at 1.7 MPa and 350C that leaves at 30C with a quality equal to 0.96. The turbine has been in operation for two years and the thermal insulation has degraded, thus it is no longer adiabatic, and a heat loss to the surroundings is estimated to be equal to 5% of the power produced. Please answer the following. Note: all property values used to solve this problem must be obtained from the thermodynamic tables in your textbook, please list the table number used. a. Create a schematic for the turbine and include the boundary that you would use to determine the power produced by the turbine along with all the mass and energy interactions between the system and the surroundings. b. On a p-v diagram represent the process for the steam in the turbine with respect to the saturation lines and other distinct property lines with their value. c. Starting with the general form for the mass and energy conservation expressions for a control volume, compute the power produced by the turbine and the rate of heat loss to the surroundings. d. List the assumptions you used in part (c) with their adequate justification.
