You are working as an EAP counsellor at Black Rock Industries. You have had two sessions with Greg, a 56 year old production manager, in relation to managing his stress. More recently, you have had one session with James, a 22 year old production worker in the factory, assisting him with mood and anxiety issues. This week, James disclosed to you that he has formed a relationship with Vanessa, Greg's 19 year old daughter. James says that they really like each other and are dating in secret as neither of them think Greg would approve of the relationship.

You are aware that Greg is highly protective of Vanessa and has described James to you as a 'good for nothing, irresponsible lay-about'.

For the following task, consider the time limited therapies discussed in class (e.g. brief family therapy, solution focused therapy).

Two months has passed since the events outlined in Part A. You remain working as a counsellor at Black Rock Industries. Greg has seen you for one further session in which he tells you that he is upset about the relationship between his supervisee, James, and his daughter Vanessa, which they had told him about. Greg is angry and appears unable to accept the relationship. You are aware that Greg's feelings are 'spilling over' at both work and home - he's yelled at James at work on several occasions for very minor issues to do with his work, and Greg has been cautioned by the general manager for this. At home, Greg hasn't spoken to Vanessa for over two weeks. Greg tells you that his wife, Mary is frustrated with him: Greg says she keeps telling him to 'let go', and that both their girls are allowed to grow up and select partners of their choosing. Greg tells you he's worried about letting his younger daughter Sofia (who's 17 years old) go to parties and mix with boys.

1. Design and plan a short-term counselling intervention( identify the issues and provide strategies best to intervene individually).

2. You and Greg mutually agree that he would benefit from ongoing counselling. Develop a brief referral plan which outlines an appropriate next step for Greg's care.
