You've undoubtedly heard some on the political right refer to our past President as Barack Hussein Obama. There's obviously only one reason for such reference - to try and incite negative connotations by implying that his national origin makes him a Muslim which makes him a terrorist (or something to that affect).In this post-911 era, many people get caught up in hysteria and ignore facts when it comes to others whose national origins are different from theirs.

Let's talk about that. In America's early days, it was hard for a McGuillicuty to get a job because of anti-Irish sentiment. It's sometimes difficult for a Bernstein to get a job without someone making a crack about his Jewish ancestry.If you're a hiring manager and have a stack of resumes to go through, what are the chances you'll blow past the ones with Arab-sounding names, or Spanish names, or Jewish names, or Russian names, or Korean names? Or maybe you ignore the Smiths and Jones, because you're looking for a really intelligent applicant so you focus on the Chens or the Wangs?Have you ever really thought about the presumptions you make when you hear someone's name? Or their accent? Or when you see the way the dress?

Should employers be able to lawfully decide the look, and the sound, and the image they want their business to portray? If you want all-American men as waiters in your restaurant, should you be forced to include Asians or Mexicans or Arabs with beards? If your customers are red necks and want to be serviced by workers who speak clear English, should you have to hire someone with a broken Indian accent.

Find a lawsuit or and EEOC complaint that deals with this issue. Let us know what you find, and whether you think the case was decided right.
