It's sometimes difficult for a Bernstein to get a job without someone making a crack about his Jewish ancestry.If you're a hiring manager and have a stack of resumes to go through, what are the chances you'll blow past the ones with Arab-sounding names, or Spanish names, or Jewish names, or Russian names, or Korean names? Or maybe you ignore the Smiths and Jones, because you're looking for a really intelligent applicant so you focus on the Chens or the Wangs?Have you ever really thought about the presumptions you make when you hear someone's name? Or their accent? Or when you see the way the dress?
Should employers be able to lawfully decide the look, and the sound, and the image they want their business to portray? If you want all-American men as waiters in your restaurant, should you be forced to include Asians or Mexicans or Arabs with beards? If your customers are red necks and want to be serviced by workers who speak clear English, should you have to hire someone with a broken Indian accent.
