Table 7.2, the level of unemployment differs a lot even between the countries of Europe. It is very high for countries of the (original) EC, whilst it is very low (and unchanged over time) for other European countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, and Switzerland. As we shall see in Chapter 8, a reason for this different unemployment experience may be the different labour market institutions that exist in this second group of countries.
