Assignment 1: Retirement Communities in Canada

Provide an overview of Retirement Communities in Greater Ottawa & the Region including relative legislation.

Purpose

This assignment will provide the student with knowledge and understanding of the Retirement Communities industry in Greater Ottawa and the Region and the relative legislation pertaining to their operations.

Learning Outcomes

CLR 1. A definition and discussion of retirement communities in Canada and their position in the healthcare industry.

Identify and explain the structure of Retirement Communities (RC's) in Canada.

Examine and determine the roles of RC's in the healthcare industry.

Describe and classify (where possible), the types of retirement community operations.

Explain the relationship and differences between RC's and Long Term Care Homes.

CLR 2. Differentiate between municipal, regional and provincial types of RC's in Canada. Provide examples of each.

Describe and address challenges facing the RC industry and governments in Canada as well as suggest strategies that may address these challenges.
