BUS709 King's Own Institute The formative assessment is a Moodle quiz what consists of 2 (two) essay type questions on topics covered from weeks 1-4. The timing of the Moodle quiz is 1 hour. Assessment 1 Assessment Type: Individual assessment (1500 word +-10%) Purpose: This assessment builds students oral and written communication skills and gives the students real life understanding of various scenarios. Topic: Scenario analysis Task details: Building on the work you have already completed; you are required to identify the correct communication process for two scenarios. You are required to integrate evidence of increased skills and demonstrated understanding gained from the lectures and readings. Marks will be allocated based on your assessment of the scenario, understanding what needs to be done and the decisions you make as to how you would approach the situation based on the procedures discussed in your readings and discussions. Question Outline your communication approach for two of the following scenarios using the following headings. Your answers can be in point form. Audience analysis Who are your audience (receiver)? What are the needs and attitudes of your audience? Communication goals What are you trying to achieve? Consider short- and long-term goals. Communication process How will you plan and implement communication strategies and practices to achieve your goals. Scenario 1 You have been asked to present an information session on wills and estate planning to a group of Aboriginal people. Scenario 2 Devise a communications program which announces a reduction in staff when the company has just announced record profitability. Scenario 3 You are the chair of a local community service group. How would you encourage attendance, participation and commitment from members? Scenario 4 You have been asked to assemble an informal work group to explore creative ways to lower employee turnover, especially for employees who leave within the first 12 months. Assignment Format: Scenario Analysis A title page Individual KOI cover sheet, signed. No Abstract or Executive Summary or TOCs is required. This Analysis should have a heading and two or more subheadings for each topic. The written text should be right and left justified throughout.
