Mohr Circle Interpretation (12 points total) You have conducted a series of triaxial tests on rock at a site where you plan to build a power plant. The results of the tests give the following information: (12 points total) Table 2 -Triaxial tests at power plant site Test 1 2 3 Confining pressure 2 krsi 3 knsi. 5.5 knsi. Axial load at failure 21 kpsi 23 kpsi 30 kpsi (a) Plot the results of these 3 tests as Mohr circles on the using the following graph paper or your computer. This means you either need to: a) print out the graph paper and draw neat circles and lines on it (you are engineers so you should be able to do this!) and then photograph it, b) copy the graph paper into your favorite drawing program (such as paint) and draw the circles on it and save the drawing or c) you can make a graph in excel or other plotting software. You will not get full credit for a sloppy hand drawn illustration that does not use graph paper with circles that aren't very circular. Be sure to label the axes on whatever you draw and indicate which test is which (b) Given this information graphically determine the Coloumh failure envelope, the coefficient of internal friction and the strength of the rock. Show all work for full credit. (c) You have estimated that the shear load will be 13 kpsi and the normal load of the power plant on the rock will both be 20 kpsi Will the rock be able to withstand this load? Explain using your Mohr circle diagram
