You work as a patient transport manager in a large London-based teaching hospital trust. Your role involves volunteering as a career development mentor in a scheme set up by the human resources department for all direct and indirect employees. The basic expectation is that mentoring should last for six months, including one meeting per month; however, it is recognised that some mentoring relationships may go beyond this in practice. 

Your current mentee is Jas, who works as a security guard on a zero-hour contract for the large facilities management firm that currently holds the contract to provide security services to the hospital trust.

 

Jas has a college diploma in healthcare from their home country; however the qualification achieved is not recognised in the UK. Jas speaks both English and Arabic fluently, as well as conversational French, having lived in France for several years. Jas is a single parent with two school-aged children and is seeking a better-paid and more secure job, but lacks specific knowledge of the jobs market and the confidence to make job applications. 

Your Task

Write an in-depth essay that:

2. Justifies your recommendations, including consideration of relevant ethical/professional codes and issues; and

3. Evaluates coaching and/or mentoring as an intervention to meet the types of needs described in your scenario.
