Question:

3.2 This chapter discussed I-statements and levels of communication.

The assumption is that disclosure of your thoughts and feelings is important for others in their attempts to work with and understand you. It’s even more important for you to get a sense of who you are. You achieve this sense of self-intimacy, paradoxically, by sharing your thoughts and feelings with others, not by holding them in or hiding them from the listening ear of others.

List two individuals from your personal or professional life you’d like to communicate a thought or feeling to, but haven’t had the courage or the opportunity to do so yet. These can be positive or negative thoughts or feelings. Write the name of the person and then briefl y note what you would share with them (one sentence only).

Name: ____________________________________________________________ Message: __________________________________________________________ Name: ____________________________________________________________ Message: __________________________________________________________ How did you feel writing these thoughts or feelings down? What do you think or feel as you see these messages on the page before you? Would you ever consider sharing these messages with the people you listed? If yes, when will you share with them?
